Christmas is the Birth of Jesus

The story of Christmas is the birth of Jesus as told in Luke 2:1-14. A decree went out from the Emperor Augustus that the entire world must register for the census in their town. Since Joseph was a descended from the house and family of King David, he went to Bethlehem to be registered with Mary, whom he was engaged to and she was nearly due to deliver a child, the Messiah. While there registering, Mary went into labor and gave birth to Jesus our Lord and Savior and she had to wrap Him in bands of cloth and she laid Him in a manger amongst the farm animals for the Son of Man had nowhere to lay His head—the inns were full. In the region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock when an angel of the Lord stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them terrifying them. But the angel spoke and said, “Do not be afraid; I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people—to you is born in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord!” A multitude of angels of the heavenly host sang praises to God saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom He favors!”
