Green Living

We all must change the way we live in order to save planet earth! We are using so many of Earth’s resources to provide for us the things we think we need but if we aren’t careful we will deplete this planet to the point it will no longer be habitable. According to It’s Easy Being Green by Crissy Trask, the United States has the highest rate of carbon emissions in the world, with billions of carbon dioxide gas released in the atmosphere yearly and more than 80 tons per household. To start changing the way we live, we must first start using less, stop wasting and recycle as much as possible to reduce the amount of energy needed to produce things we need and to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in landfills. Here’s a short list of five things you can do to get started:
1.)   Add plants to your environment—they are nature’s great air purifiers removing carbon dioxide and harmful chemical from the air.
2.)   In the winter, rather than turning up the heat at bed time add an extra blanket or use an electric blanket—it will use less energy.
3.)   Cut down on the amount of paper being used and save the forests and save money. Start practicing it at work by reading materials on the screen rather than printing every document and if you need to print use the back of the paper as much as possible.
4.)   Buy rechargeable batteries or buy items that function without batteries. Batteries contain heavy metals that can soak into the ground and pollute water supplies.
5.)   Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth instead use a cup to rinse and wet your toothbrush. This will save about 50 gallons of water if you brush for three to four minutes three times a day!
