What is this Thing Call Love?
According to the
Anatomy of Love by Helen Fisher, Ph.D. people equate love to the mating traits—sex,
love and marriage. In her book, Helen examines why we fall in love with one
person rather than another, love at first sight and the physical side of attractions.
These are some of the same things that Saint Valentine’s Day is associated
with, a romantic love. Saint Valentine ministered to Christian’s couples to
marry and he was imprisoned for performing forbidden marriages and eventually
he was executed and now this day is celebrated on February 14th of
every year for lovers to have their romantic moment. What about all the days
prior and after Valentine’s Day? Love is still the power in charged in our
lives and it will not be complete until we employ love in our life permanently
with the knowledge that love is far more important than physical sexual
attraction that may fade over time. This is what Jesus said in John 15:12-13, “This
is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love
hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Love is
the first and foremost command Jesus gave us and we all need to follow it.
Faith won’t even work without love because the Bible says that faith works by
love, none of the gifts of the Spirit will work if you don’t have love
according to First Corinthians 13. If you want to see the incredible power of
God released through your life than start putting the love command in action by
loving those around you. So, this thing called love is having the power of God
flowing through us when we begin to love one another like Jesus has instructed
us. Be mine, happy Valentine’s Day!
